Path of exile how to change difficulty
There are no more difficulties. Once you finish act 5, you get the -20 resistances and other mods from the old Cruel, once you finish 10, you get the -60 from Merciless. Death penalty to XP is counted by area, meaning no penalty for acts 1-5, 5% for 6-10 and 10% for maps.

new to this game and was wondering if you can change the difficulty on the fly? It’s on normal at the moment and im only like 3 hrs in (level 8) and my character is literally superman one hitting most things and the red orb doesnt even drop below 95% even when taking on hero baddies. Was really expecting more of a challenge TBH
I have finished all 5 of them, but I still can’t figure out how to change difficulty. If I’m right, I should get to see “cruel” in the world map. Is there anything else I need to do besides these 5 quests to get access to cruel difficulty? Deal with the Bandits; The Weaver’s Needle; Delving into Sin; The Cathedral of Bones; Through Sacred Ground.

Waypoint* screen. yeah, if you look in the world map at the top there are tabs that say “Normal, Cruel, Merciless”, just click on the one and then you can travel to any waypoint you already have. When you press ‘U’ or are at a waypoint, you’ll see the difficulties above the map.
You’ll have to kill him again and go through this portal. Yes you’ll need to kill him again alternatively since you spoke to Lady Dalia already you can join a public party that just killed him (1 or more members in Twilight Shoud) and just take player portal to post-fight dominus area and grab portal to cruelty.
With the current arrangement you’re faced with a straight line “difficulty” progression that doesn’t really give you any time to compensate for the resistance penalties before continuing to get more difficult than the previous acts/arrangements.
